Time to give you a status update on Risk Assessment standards. The new ASTM standard on Risk Assessment for Amusement Rides and Devices has been balloted and is facing one opponent who is challenging the publication of this important new document. ASTM has a formal process on how to deal with such an opposition. We expect this process to last until the end of 2025 and the publication of this new standard at the beginning of 2026. At ISO/TC 254 a proposal has been made by China for a new standard based on an existing Chinese standard for Risk Assessment of Amusement Rides. The formal ISO process requires a majority of all P-Members for such a new work item proposal to pass. As the vote did not pass, the Chinese responsible retracted their proposal and will explore alternative approaches. In lieu of harmonization between standards one option is for ISO to reference the new ASTM Risk Assessment standard. We will keep you updated on any developments. Stay tuned.
